Something Borrowed
Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue
Something old-
The Old Covenant points us to the New Covenant
Without the Old Law, grace would be of no effect. Grace is meaningless without Law. The Old Law was our schoolmaster.
Something old speaks of continuity or connection. Stay rooted.
Proverbs 22:28 KJV
[28] Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.
Something new-
Isaiah 43:19 KJV
[19] Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.
Paul writes of how Jesus said, “This cup is the new testament in my blood:
1 Corinthians 11:25 KJV
[25] After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it , in remembrance of me.
Hebrews 10:16-22 KJV
[16] This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; [17] And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. [18] Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin. [19] Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, [20] By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; [21] And having an high priest over the house of God; [22] Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.
Something borrowed –
A borrowed womb
A borrowed boat
A borrowed donkey
Matthew 21:1-5 NKJV
[1] Now when they drew near Jerusalem, and came to Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, [2] saying to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her. Loose them and bring them to Me. [3] And if anyone says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord has need of them,’ and immediately he will send them.” [4] All this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying: [5] “Tell the daughter of Zion, ‘Behold, your King is coming to you, Lowly, and sitting on a donkey, A colt, the foal of a donkey.'”
A borrowed coin
Matthew 22:15-22 NKJV
[15] Then the Pharisees went and plotted how they might entangle Him in His talk. [16] And they sent to Him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that You are true, and teach the way of God in truth; nor do You care about anyone, for You do not regard the person of men. [17] Tell us, therefore, what do You think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?” [18] But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, “Why do you test Me, you hypocrites? [19] Show Me the tax money.” So they brought Him a denarius. [20] And He said to them, “Whose image and inscription is this?” [21] They said to Him, “Caesar’s.” And He said to them, “Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” [22] When they had heard these words, they marveled, and left Him and went their way.
A borrowed house
Matthew 26:18 NKJV
[18] And He said, “Go into the city to a certain man, and say to him, ‘The Teacher says, “My time is at hand; I will keep the Passover at your house with My disciples.”‘”
A borrowed tomb
Matthew 27:57-66 KJV
[57] When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus’ disciple: [58] He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered. [59] And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, [60] And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed. [61] And there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, sitting over against the sepulchre. [62] Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate, [63] Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again. [64] Command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first. [65] Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch: go your way, make it as sure as ye can. [66] So they went, and made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, and setting a watch.
He owns it all but He borrows everything.
Proverbs 22:7 KJV
[7] The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.
Jesus came to SERVE!
He borrowed a womb but He made the woman.
He borrowed a boat but he could walk on water.
He borrowed a donkey and a colt but He owns the cattle on a thousand hills and will ride His very own white horse through the clouds.
He borrowed a coin but He paves streets with gold.
He borrowed a house but He said in my Father’s house are many mansions
He borrowed a tomb for three days because HE IS THE RESURRECTION
BAPTISMS
Something blue-
● Out of the blue
● Blue sky thinking
● Wild blue yonder
● Somewhere beyond the blue
● Blue skies
Smiling at me
Nothing but blue skies
Do I see
● Somewhere over the rainbow, skies are blue, and the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true.
Anticipation
Anticipation is the nectar of the new life found in Jesus.
Looking FORWARD
Today we moved Godward

Every time you see the color blue, I want you to remember the resurrection because it guarantees yours.
BAPTISM CEREMONY
Romans 6:1-11 NKJV
[1] What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? [2] Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? [3] Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? [4] Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. [5] For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, [6] knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. [7] For he who has died has been freed from sin. [8] Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, [9] knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him. [10] For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. [11] Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
